Homemade wedding favors are a hot trend today no matter what size wedding you're planning or even what theme.
You can be planning a large casual event or a small formal, from a traditional theme to something completely outrageous, and wedding favors that are homemade will fit right in - and save you money.
I've seen tons of ideas for homemade wedding favors all over the Internet and in bride's magazines. And really, you can pick up any magazine today and it'll probably have some different everyday craft ideas that you can design into being innovative wedding favors.
Some wedding favor ideas to get you started - make homemade wedding favors by putting together some already-made items like...
And here are more wedding favor ideas that I've seen done:
Fans made of cardboard
Sure you can buy kits but if you really like crafts or you're looking to save money and want something more special, do them yourself. Make them into different shapes and colors too.
Tissue paper flowers
These are really fun to make and you create bouquets of flowers for your guests, wrapped up with a special tag attached.
"Designer" wrapped candies
Why not make some of your own designer candies starting with different recipes and ideas from magazines like "Good Housekeeping" or "Ladies Home Journal".
Creative bookmarks
Even though bookmarks should be laminated to preserve them, if you want to do your own, that's cool too.
You can make them out of construction paper or heavy card stock and print them on a laser printer or high quality inkjet. Use yarn or ribbon instead of tassels.
You can print the message out on plain or colored paper and glue it to the cardstock or construction paper for a layered look.
What do you put your homemade wedding favors in? Some of the ideas you come up with will have to be packaged in something, whether it's a box or bag or simply wrapped up in something. You can actually make your own wedding favor boxes if you want.
Just find a box in a style you want, take it apart, trace it on heavy-duty cardstock in the color you want, and put the box together. An easier way to wrap up your favors is to use bags made of cellophane, tulle or organza.
If you're looking for a way to express your own creativity in your wedding theme, add your unique personality to your favors and save money, all at the same time, something that obviously can't be done when you're buying the same off-the-rack favors that everyone else is buying. And they're probably going to be a lot more appreciated by your guests too because they'll know you didn't run out and buy just anything; instead you put thought into it and they'll see that thoughtfulness reflected in the favors.
The ideas are endless when it comes to giving homemade wedding favors to your guests. And your guests will absolutely love anything you decide to make because they'll know you thought about them and how having them at your wedding made it that much more special for you - and it will show in the favors.
Obviously, when you've decided to give your guests homemade wedding favors, it isn't something that you put last on your wedding planning to-do list. It's actually one of the first things you need to do because you may have to go shopping for the supplies you'll need to make them.
And you don't want to get frustrated and feel like you're rushed get them done either. You want to have fun with the whole project, from start to finish. So even if you're planning a smaller wedding with just a few guests, get some of your bridesmaids or your family to get in on the project with you.
