Memorial Verses for Bookmarks
and Other Keepsakes

There are a variety of calming and meaningful memorial verses and prayers in the Bible that say exactly what you want to express to those who attend to pay their respects, or scriptures that depict the personality and life of the one who's passed on.

The scripture of Psalm 23 from the Bible is frequently used for many memorial verses at funerals or memorial services. Or maybe the loved one had his or her own favorite passage of scripture that will more closely reflect that person's life and character.

You can also look through books of poems and verses that are meant to provide strength and encouragement during to the bereaved and that also resonate with the loved one's life as he or she lived it, for example something the person repeated often like a favorite saying, or a quote from one of their favorite books.

There is never a right or wrong or absolutely perfect verse to use for a funeral or memorial service since the loved one obviously will have affected different people in different ways.

And if you're simply not sure what to say yourself and you're looking for something that is simple and appropriate without being too dark or grim, but rather uplifting and comforting, simply search online or visit card stores to see some of the various sayings that are currently used on sympathy and funeral cards. That should give you some inspiration to choose what you feel will reflect the life of the loved one.

Verse #1
When I come to the end of the road
and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little, but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me but let me go.

For this journey we all must take,
and each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master plan,
A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me, but let me go.

Verse #2
If tears could build a stairwell
and memories were a lane,
I would walk right up to Heaven
and bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken,
no time to say good-bye...
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
My heart still aches in sadness
and secret tears still flow,
What it means to lose you
no one will ever know.

Verse #3
God looked around His garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be thine".
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Verse #4
God needed an angel in Heaven
To stand at the Savior’s feet;
His choice must be the rarest
A lily pure and sweet.
He gazed upon the mighty throng
Then stopped and picked the best,
Our child was His chosen one
With Jesus she’s[he’s] now at rest.

Verse #5
I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I'd like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve
to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.

Verse #6
Another leaf has fallen,
another soul has gone.
But still we have God’s promises,
in every robin’s song.
For he is in His heaven,
and though He takes away,
He always leaves to mortals,
the bright sun’s kindly ray.
He leaves the fragrant blossoms,
and lovely forest, green.
And gives us new found comfort,
when we on Him will lean.

Verse #7
A bouquet of beautiful memories,
Sprayed with a million tears,
Wishing God could have
spared you,
If just for a few more years.
It does not take a special day,
For us to think of you,
Each Mass we hear,
Each prayer we say,
Is offered up for you.
We cannot bring the old days back,
When we were all together,
Our family chain is broken now,
But memories live for ever.

Verse #8
Be at peace.
May the angels lead thee
into paradise.

May the martyrs receive thee
At thy coming and take thee
To the holy city.

May the choirs of angels
Receive thee and mayest thou
Have rest everlasting.

Amen.

Verse #9
Let not your hearts be troubled;
believe in God, believe also in Me.

In my Father’s house are many rooms;
if it were not so, would I have told you
that I go and prepare a place for you?

And when I go and prepare a place
for you, I will come again and will
take you to Myself, that where I am
you may be also.

John 14:1-3

Verse #10
When you’re alone with Jesus
And he sweetly smiles on thee,
Will you gently whisper to Him
A little prayer for me?
And when I’m alone with Jesus
And all else is hid from view,
I’ll gently drop into His Sacred Heart
A little prayer for you.

Verse #12
I would rather have a little rose
From the garden of a friend,
Than have the choicest flowers
When my stay on earth shall end.

I would rather have the kindest words
And a smile that I can see,
Than flattery when my heart is still
And this life ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving smile
From the friends I know are true,
Than tears shed around my casket
When the world I bid adieu.

Verse #13
The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains…..
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

Verse #14
Memories Build a Special Bridge
Our memories build a special bridge when loved ones have to part
to help us feel we're with them still and sooth a grieving heart.
Our memories span the years we shared, preserving ties that bind,
They build a special bridge of love and bring us peace of mind.

Verse #15
The Fallen Limb
A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we're together again.

The Twenty-Third Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I shall dwell
in the house of the Lord forever.
